Regional Biodiversity Committees (RBC's) are crucial intermediate bodies that bridge the gap between the State Biodiversity Board and local Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC's). They operate at the regional level to coordinate and monitor biodiversity conservation activities.
Established under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, RBC's play a vital role in ensuring effective implementation of biodiversity conservation policies and programs at the grassroots level.
Coordinate activities between State Board and BMC's, monitor implementation of conservation programs, and ensure compliance with biodiversity regulations across the region.
Collect, compile, and maintain regional biodiversity data, assist in preparation of People's Biodiversity Registers, and maintain records of biological resources.
Facilitate stakeholder consultations, resolve conflicts related to biodiversity access, and promote community participation in conservation activities.
RBC teams conducting field visits and monitoring conservation activities
Systematic documentation of biodiversity resources and traditional knowledge
Regular interactions with local communities and BMC members
Conduct comprehensive assessment of biodiversity resources, existing committees, and conservation needs in the region.
Identify and engage relevant stakeholders including government departments, research institutions, NGOs, and community representatives.
Constitute the RBC with representatives from various sectors including biodiversity experts, local communities, and government officials.
Provide training and orientation to RBC members on their roles, responsibilities, and relevant legal frameworks.
